My travelogue – Mauritius

My husband wanted to fulfill his long cherished desire to visit Mauritius. He had childhood memories of Stone Boy TV series (may be some of you can recall) which was shot in Mauritius. It was then he decided that he will go to Mauritius once in his life. So it happened!

From May to September, it is winter season in Mauritius (18 to 22 degree Celsius). We went in the month of July, a rather very pleasant time to visit with chances of rains anytime (so carry an umbrella).

Right from the airport to our resort (Maritim Crystals Beach Resort), everything seemed spectacular. The wind, the natural beauty and amazing hospitality of Mauritian people will make you fall you fall in love with the place instantly. (Check out: www.maritimcrystalsbeachhotel.mu for a comfortable and memorable stay).

Beautiful views + weather + beaches and blue water = Awesome Holidays. Yes, I felt it is going to be one amazing vacation.

Places to visit/things to do:

Port Louis: Capital of the country and has such colorful markets, casinos and restaurants. You will love strolling on the streets of this beautiful and clean port. This is the place to shop for clothes, souvenirs and crafts. Hand painted stuff is amazing like cushions, scarves, dresses and tops (must buy).

Ile Aux Cerfs: A beautiful island accessible though a 20 minutes boat ride that would be just so thrilling. The boat rider did all the James Bond stunts that made us shout at the top of our voice. One can choose to stay on the island or go for 1 hour speed boat tour to Grand River Waterfall, we chose latter (and it was worth it!). The speed boat, the cold wind and the sea were a deadly combination. I felt the chill, down my spine!

Citadel fort: Now this is a fort, which gives you a great view of Port Louis and harbor area, altogether a good place for photography and buying souvenirs.

Chamarel falls: A beautiful place with waterfall and greenery all around, another good spot for nature enthusiast and photographers.

7 colored Earth: A place where nature seems to cast it’s spell. Here, the colors of Earth like purple, grey, blue, orange etc. are so well blended. that it looks like a masterpiece created by a great artist. Some millions of years ago, the colors were formed by iron and aluminium oxides, due to volcanic activity, which repel each other and form colorful striped (Whoa! that is some geography!).

Cap Malheureux: Now, this was the most picturesque place in all of Mauritius, I am more of a nature and scenery lover than of adventure sports. Mauritius provides both, but I am always inclined towards scenic places. So this particular place was THE ONE. I tell you sometimes even the best of cameras cannot capture what eyes can see and feel. No crowd, less traveled and absolutely virgin.

Other places/activities: You can also visit Trou Aux Cerfs, Ganga Talao (Mauritian Haridwar), Grand Baie, Casela Park, Botanical Garden. Plenty of adventure sports like snorkeling, kite surfing, under sea walking etc. can be tried.

Floreal factory is a must visit, amazing craftsmanship, beautifully crafted ships, boat models and wall clock  you will find (must buy).

You can also opt to go for Catamaran Cruise or Submarine.

Mauritius is a beautiful little country and I have collected some precious memories from the place. As they say “Once a year go someplace you have never been before!”.

I hope you enjoyed the post! Do comment.

Live & Love,

Charu.
